In elementary school, I submitted a design to a fashion contest run by Macy’s and a poem to a poetry book to be published as part of their anthology. In high school, I participated in musicals, art classes and even designed my own prom dress. I grew up painting Christmas ornaments, and learned from my mom that I could learn how to DIY anything. This creative experiences ran parallel to my baking and cooking experiences. I grew up helping in the kitchen; learning to make homemade ice cream, cookies, and cakes. It was only a matter of time before these passions intersected.   When I relocated from Southern California to Northern California, I didn’t know anyone. I spent much of my time watching Food Network and trying new dishes. I tried everything- homemade Alfredo, donuts, and ravioli. I loved it. I loved the parameters of the recipe as a guide; a basic equation for success. Yet each recipe could be built upon and tweaked to suit my own style. It’s my favorite way to work; give me the basics and let me run with it.   I told someone about my baking and they let me make a 5th birthday cake for their son. The cake was a huge trial and a lot of error; things I simply didn’t know at the time. But I loved it, and I was proud of my work. It’s been about 5 years since that time. Growth has been steady and meaningful; each moment teaching me something that leads to the next step. Now, I see the fruits of my labor; the time and dedication spent practicing my craft. And this is what I want to put into the world; joy, creative energy, love and passion, all wrapped in a fluffy cake and sweet, creamy frosting." - Lasondra Wilson (@yellowcake_desserts) on discovering her passion.
