Photo by George Steinmetz @geosteinmetz Falling water levels in the Dead Sea have left this Israeli pier high and dry. The shores of the salty lake mark the lowest point on Earth’s land surface at 1,410 feet (430 m) below sea level. And that low point has been falling about three feet (one meter) a year, as more water is diverted from the river that enters this basin for irrigation, thirsty cities, and industry.
