In a Q&A with photography writer Diane Smyth (@dismy), @gregoryhalpern discusses colonialism, representation, portraiture, and poetry in the context of his forthcoming book and show. Titled 'Let the Sun Beheaded Be', the project focuses on the Caribbean archipelago of Guadeloupe, and was inspired, in part, by the works of French Caribbean poet Aimé Césaire.

Halpern made this work for 'Immersion' a French-American photography commission organized by the Fondation d’enterprise Hermès (@fondationhermes) in collaboration with Aperture (@aperturefnd), the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (@sfmoma) and Fondation Henri Cartier -Bresson (@fondationhcb).

An exhibition of the work opens at Fondation Henri Cartier -Bresson on September 8th, 2020.
