In 2018, commissioned by @ナショナルジオグラフィック, Carolyn Drake photographed Utah’s Great Salt Lake, which gives its name to Utah’s capital city.
.
It is the largest saline lake on earth, currently covering around 1,700 square miles, and is one of many lakes on earth facing recession and depletion, as a result of climate change and human interference.
.
The article was informed by a study of lakes made by Catherine O’Reilly, a geologist at Illinois State University, author of the 2015 report 'Rapid and highly variable warming of lake surface waters around the globe’.
.
At the link in bio, O’Reilly also reflects on Drake's work and the importance of the inclusion of people in her images, as it "is often absent from environmentally-focused reportage."
