But getting this view from a high altitude proved to be challenging. The skyscrapers resemble a tree canopy when you are high above them; it took us several minutes to find an angle that allowed me to peer into this view. Once we had it, and as I steadied my camera, all the billboards suddenly flashed signs of thanks to the first responders in the COVID-19 pandemic. It was a deeply touching moment. Seeing Times Square and the New Year’s ball lit yet all the streets empty was a stark reminder of how much our world had changed in just a few short months So grateful to National Geographic for giving me the opportunity to document my beloved NYC during the peak of the pandemic in April.
