The question I get asked the most is “how long can you hold your breath for?” or “how deep do you dive?” To be honest, I often give my max as answers (50meters/170ft and 5:44 breathold), but it’s not as simple as that.
⠀
Freediving is not only dependant on your mental state but also your physical one (it is estimated at 70/30). For example, on the day this photo was taken, diving to this ledge located at 55ft was exhausting and I was seeing stars on my way up. I had been living on a sailboat not getting much rest and was mentally exhausted by personal problems. Yet 2 days prior, I was catching fish at 80ft without a struggle in the world.
⠀
When it comes to performance, especially in freediving, your mental state is key. How many times did I hear from amazing divers (and myself) “I’m diving like sh*#! today!”. We all have bad days (in diving and in everyday life) and taking the time to take care of yourself. I can dive 170ft and I’m ordinary, it’s all the little things around that makes the world difference. @superhumansorg
