“My dad would always say things like you know, Matt, you can have anything you want in life but you can’t have everything you want,” Matt Dalio, 35, tells @cnbcmakeit.
Nowadays most people would be grateful for any words of wisdom from billionaire hedge fund manager Ray Dalio, (the 70-year-old is one of the most prominent names in finance).
But daily pep talks from the Bridgewater Associates founder were just the norm for his kids, Matt, Devon, Paul and Mark Dalio, when they were growing up.
″[What my dad meant] was part of having what you really want in life means giving up all of the other things,” Dalio says, “and a lot of people aren’t willing to give up those other things.”
