Photo by @amivitale A Kamchatka brown bear peeks his head out of the thick summer growth of flowers on the remote Kamchatka Peninsula in Russia. The bear is the largest carnivore in Eurasia. The peninsula was once entirely populated by brown bears, and in remote protected areas, it still has some of the highest densities of brown bears on Earth. However, fragmentation, poaching, and dramatic declines in salmon populations due to human fishing are putting increasing pressures on the bears and the communities near them.
