I had the opportunity to share this experience on the Nipponmaru Ship with 240 people from 11 countries. Reminiscing on my experience now as I look through my fellow SWY members social media posts, I notice just how much I missed out on about 60% of events after becoming seasick. I was given the endearing yet unwanted title of “Seasick Queen” by SWY mates. Although I didn’t get the chance to interact with everyone, I managed to build Strong relationships with the people I did meet. They helped me to understand a very important lesson, that being different is beautiful. I learned from some OPYs who said, “you are different from the other Japanese people, but through being yourself, you need can teach people in Japan that being different is beautiful and amazing. Stay strong and never change yourself”. But here Japan, everyone seems to be hiding and lack the confidence to be who they really are. They feel it is safer to conform to social norms and be completely the same as others. When I returned to Japan from living in the UK, I too felt I had to reapply myself to Japanese standards and hide real Ena Uda. Now, I have a reinforced confidence to be my true self! Through SWY I felt lots of emotion, cultures and different living, it has taught me to remain as I am and keep living as the strong, independent and beautiful person that I am. I want to keep living life true to myself and share my message with others around me. Thank you for giving all these lovely people the opportunity to experience something I’ve never had before. I’d like to contribute to my actress life by utilising this experience.
