It was a non-violent movement, tho it was met with much violence from the opposition. But the bravery & grace of every person who would not let the movement be defeated by fear-mongering or hate led to the ICC's desegregation of all southern routes by September of that same year. (The first ride began in May. ) It's also another window into the depth of true heroism by #JohnLewis, rest his soul.
