Today @indyofficinalis is taking over my page to talk about ethnobotany and urban farming and I’m so excited for you to get to know her work! Please take a moment of your Sunday to read this post. While Indy and I haven’t met in person (yet), I can feel her heart and soul in her work and I am so moved by her message and passion!🌱🌎🌱 “I've been passionate about sustainable agriculture since I was 19. I spent my early adulthood working on various farms that practiced different agriculture techniques from biodynamic farming to permaculture. I didn't see a lot of representation of people of color in my field of work, which led me to begin creating educational spaces for brown and black folks interested in farming. I managed a small garden in an underserved, predominantly black neighborhood in North Carolina for a few years, financially sustaining my passion for food justice and agricultural education by selling foraged mushrooms and produce from the garden and teaching courses on sustainability. I studied public health in college, and became interested in bringing fresh and local produce to communities that didn't have access to healthful, nutritious food. I find that by empowering these communities to grow food, we are able to address both physical and emotional health in underserved areas. In December I moved here, to Los Angeles ,and began managing an urban farm on a rooftop in skid row. While the poverty is immense, the passion for life is even stronger here than in any community I have ever seen. I love being able to empower folks to grow their own food, eat organic produce, and reconnect with the land.” Image used with permission from @indyofficinalis」6月29日 2時41分 - nikkireed
