Follow ➡️ @cnnclimate ➡️The National Park Service warned visitors to the Grand Canyon this week that extreme heat could cause the glue holding hiking boots together to melt. "The heat inside the canyon can cause shoes to come apart, and heavy hiking boots can trap sweat and lead to painful blisters," the agency said in a tweet. The announcement comes as much of the West is under a heat advisory this week and is likely seeing the year's highest temperatures. 2020 is off to one of the hottest starts of any year we’ve seen for the planet. Record heat waves are expected to increase in frequency and severity as the planet warms as a result of climate change. (📸: Grand Canyon National Park Service)
