Rediscover Fukushimaさんのインスタグラム写真 - (Rediscover FukushimaInstagram)「Iino Hachiman Shrine in Furudono Town is one of the only places in Japan to see Yabusame mounted archery. ⛩🏇🏻🏹 Yabusame archery displays at shrines became popular in the Kamakura Period, when Minamoto no Yoritomo (the first shogun of Japan) encouraged the practice to try and increase the shockingly bad archery skills of his samurai! The archery displays are also thought to please and entertain the shinto gods. It’s said that Iino Hachiman Shrine began holding this festival some 800 years ago, in order to celebrate the visit of Minamoto no Yoritomo to Furudono, when he gave the land of the shrine to the feudal lord of the time.
