Japanese Akoya pearl is a saltwater pearl cultured in Pinctada fucata martensii oyster in Japan. It is the smallest oyster to produce commercial pearls and produces only one to two pearls at a time. •

The size range (as tiny as 1mm to 11mm), the round shape and its high luster are the reasons why I chose to design this award winning signature earrings with Japanese Akoya pearls. •

The process of creating Japanese Akoya pearl was achieved in the late 19th century by Koichi Mikimoto, a founder of @Mikimoto, the leading world's cultured pearl company.
