I started rock climbing at age 6 on “Rat Rock”, a boulder in a public park in the heart of NYC. My parents immigrated to NYC in the 80s to pursue art. After I was born, my dad gave up his art to take care of me while my mom was the breadwinner of the family, working 6 days a week, 9 to 5. Money was a constant worry.

I wouldn’t be a climber today if I didn’t have free access to rock climbing; first it was the public parks and then through climbing gyms that offered to give me a free membership. I’m incredibly grateful for the hospitality the NYC community has offered but I know that we as a climbing community need to be more inclusive of marginalized people. I want the future of climbing to be diverse, welcoming and accessible for everyone.
I’ve been working with @evolv_worldwide and @wearebraindead on a collaboration for the last few months. In light of recent events we wanted to do all that we can to help make climbing be more accessible. @farmtactics from brain dead brought up the idea of donating 100% of proceeds from one of our colorways to grassroots organizations that provide marginalized communities access to climbing. More info to come... We are with you and love you.
