The world is beginning to look different. A lot of people are wondering when things will "go back to normal.” But returning to the status quo means heading in the wrong direction. Silence is complacency and now, more than ever, we see the importance of making our values known.

We’re grateful to have a platform with which we can make the world a more equitable place and be the people our dogs know we can be. And that’s what we’re going to do. This is real. This is concrete. This is felt.

-Supporting: At BARK, we continue to support diversity and inclusion initiatives with our employees. These are always in the works, but one thing we are prioritizing right now is hosting discussions led by experts in anti-bias and anti-racism work. These discussions will lead to concrete action we can take within BARK. We’ve also given employees the flexibility to take additional time off to protest, process, or take care of loved ones.

-Donating (and why we’re matching donations): Our donation program has sparked an incredible amount of dialogue on what is important to our employees and how they’re committing themselves to anti-racist work. An important part of allyship is looking to our employees to tell us what their priorities are and what they believe the best way to incite change is. No one can speak to what is needed better than the people directly affected, and for that reason we will be following the lead of our employees by matching donations to causes they believe in.

Since launching this program, a few of the organizations we’ve donated to include: ROOTT, ACLU, Black Lives Matter, Brooklyn Community Bail Fund, Women's Prison Association, Southern Poverty Law Center, The Bail Project, Reclaim the Block, Equal Justice Initiative, Color of Change, Campaign Zero, Poor People's Campaign, The Okra Project.

-Lastly, PLEASE continue to challenge us. The push for equality isn’t a one-day hashtag on social media, it’s continued dedication to checking oneself, having hard conversations, and uplifting those around you.

Black Lives Matter. Black lives are valid. Black lives are beautiful. Black Lives hold value. Not just when the news cameras are rolling. Always.
