We rise for justice for George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, Tony McDade, and countless others whose lives have been taken. We rise for an end to racism and to the destructive myth of white supremacy. As we rise, we recommit ourselves to support the mission of ABW—amplifying the power of young women—in an anti-racist space, even when our country fails us; as a place where black and brown women set the agenda and lead the dialogue. Those of us who are white will continue to educate ourselves, listen, engage, and change. We vow to leverage our privilege and access to uplift black and brown young women, to mentor them when they are young and to partner with them as they grow into the amazing women they will become. We are also constantly inspired by, and learning from the women of color who run ABW. It is through their creativity, business acumen, perspective and experience that we are, in turn, uplifted. And through this work, we never lose sight of the fact that it is our young people who are speaking truth to power and holding us to the standards that they expect of us. As the ABW team, we will continue to make it our mission to put more women (and men) of color on our board and in leadership positions, and to further empower the outstanding women and men of color who have made this organization what it is. We will continue to celebrate and honor the authorship of ABW young women—whether through song, dance, or spoken word.
