It seems to me this is all normal and all change that needs to take place will initially be uncomfortable and require deep introspection about our individual stances and what we want for our communities and the greater good. We are in unprecedented times on so many levels, but also this movement for racial justice is old and long overdue in our country. We need deep systemic change and reform, to finally live as one and give our black and brown brothers and sisters the opportunity to thrive in all the ways privileged white people do. To quote #LizzSchumer in an article she wrote for Good Housekeeping “To say All lives matter in response to Black lives matter is actually more divisive than unifying. It diminishes the focus on the violence and discrimination black individuals face everyday in this country- the sad reality is that black Americans are disportionately impacted by police violence and systemic racism in our nation” I realize and understand there will be push back on many issues and movements. #Defundthepolice for example may be misleading if one doesn’t understand what the movement is about. It is not actually saying defund the police entirely but rather “it’s a call to divest resources away from policing in local budgets and REALLOCATE those resources to healthcare, housing and education our black people deserve” Our Mayor Eric Garcetti tweeted that he stands with the people of LA protesting for racial justice, and is taking powerful next steps🙏🏽 So for those of you constantly attacking my posts, saying I live in a bubble and repeatedly diminishing me for what I believe in, I ask you this.. Is there another way? I am on a learning curve, but I know one thing for sure...CHANGE AND REFORM MUST HAPPEN. I know there are great people, including police officers around the country that also believe in this important moment. Some days feel dark, but other days feel hopeful. That hope keeps me going imagining a brighter day where we can truly live as one. We are still far from that, but we are taking the steps🙏🏽 #blacklivesmatter」6月5日 6時57分 - echriqui
