It’s hard to believe the peaceful Rwanda I saw was in fact the opposite just 15 years ago. Pastor Charles shared with us how the country has been able to heal and rebuild after the nightmare genocide. ⁣ ⁣ Both the people & the government made a choice to play crucial roles in the aftermath. Today, it is illegal to speak about which tribe you were apart of because after the genocide, the government united the country by making everyone Rwandans. Small steps like that and many others that were put in place were necessary for restoring & rebuilding. ⁣ ⁣ Also the people who did their parts. Many of which witnessed the brutal killings of their entire family. Countless survivors kept sharing with us that they made the choice to do their parts and forgive. “Forgiving does not mean you forget” like Pastor Charles says, but “it is when you forgive when healing can truly begin.” These people made the painful choice to forgive the ones who persecuted them & we are now seeing the powerful impact that has made to help end the vicious cycle for their children & the future generations to come. So many people in Rwanda have given their lives to Jesus after the genocide and I too believe that has played a significant role in bringing communities together & healing through faith. ⁣ ⁣ Rwanda gives me hope for the future of my black brothers and sisters in America & also hope for my people being persecuted in the Middle East. I believe brighter days are on the horizon. 2020 is a year that has woken us up & I believe blessings are coming. We are all learning & finally listening. This time we’re living in is very crucial & fragile. We all need to play our parts big and small and choose our words and actions wisely. Do not let hate brew in your hearts and make a home there. Hate isn’t something we are born with, it’s something we are taught. I pray that together we will see justice served & healing truly begins for the broken hearted.
