Grotjahn first began experimenting with cardboard as a material in the early 2000s, breaking down the boxes that his art supplies came in and spreading paint on the pieces. In “Untitled (Capri 52.56),” this humble ground provides the foundation for a characteristically free and dynamic exploration of movement, color, and form.
