The album will be available as a 2LP set, plus a 2LP coloured vinyl edition, which will be exclusive to HMV as part of their 1921 Edition range later in the year. This release will also mark the first time that all 22 songs have been available on CD, previous versions being highlights only.‬ The Julien Temple directed film was based on the Absolute Beginners novel by Colin MacInnes. Written and set in ‪1958 London‬ and published in 1959, Absolute Beginners is set against the backdrop of the Notting Hill race riots of August 1958. The star-studded cast included David Bowie, Patsy Kensit, Eddie O'Connell, Ray Davies, Sade, James Fox, Mandy Rice-Davies and Steven Berkoff with 'blink and you'll miss it' cameos from Sandie Shaw, Eric Sykes and Strictly judge Bruno Tonioli. Though the film was not adored by the critics, the album (which was originally released in April 1986), fared far better. Absolute Beginners features three songs by David Bowie that weren't included on any of his studio albums, with the title track becoming a #2 hit in the UK when it was released as a single the previous month. The Bowie tracks, Absolute Beginners, That’s Motivation and Volare were recorded at Abbey Road Studios, London, in June 1985 with overdubs to the title track later that year at Mountain Studios, Montreux. The tracks were issued as part of Parlophone’s Loving The Alien (1983 - 1988) boxset in 2018. The sleeve notes for the reissue feature new interviews with Julien Temple, Clive Langer, Alan Winstanley, Edward Tudor Pole, Simon Emmerson, Mick Talbot and Nick Lowe.
