Having said that... I had always been skeptical of, and even hated, religion.
When I was little, my family belonged to a cult religion. I was quite disgusted by the sect’s deceptiveness, but even more so by the fact that my impoverished family was allowed to survive only thanks to the cooperative structure of the cult community. My wish to permanently escape poverty and religion was ingrained in me during those years.
Since the 2011 earthquake disaster, however, I came to understand that faith could be motivated by worship and fear of nature; I experienced and understood the fundamental root that gives rise to religious beliefs, and in turn became more tolerant of how people may desire religion.
In that sense, I think we are finding ourselves in need of salvation today as the nature, in the form of COVID-19, has once again descended upon us with a roar and we have no immediate means to combat against it despite all the medical and scientific advances.
We human beings are powerless as ever and cannot but observe the situation in a daze and wait things out. I can now understand that it is in a time like this that religion is born, and the inevitability seems to entirely make sense.
In the present world the role of religion may have been taken over by gaming and other forms of entertainment, but I believe we artists are also in the position to provide salvation for the mind and heart. "I' With Earthly Desires Atop My Head and Everyday Corporeity, Stand on the Sublime World"
