Alas, after the hardship, we come out a bit wiser.  Days prior to the pandemic and self quarantine @nolan_smythe lost his life in a climbing accident in Basaseachi, Mexico in El Gigante. I knew Nolan through @sav.cummins , a fellow teammate @thenorthface. Over the  years we have been collaborating Sav was always grounded by her shared love for Nolan. We never met in person, yet the love Sav and Nolan created was beyond what a few words might express.  The first time I went through loss similar to this I was 29. The potential of the world lay ahead. There was nothing we couldn’t do if we were motivated. Perhaps it’s experience that has shown that loss at a young age is much heavier. At 57 the number of friends lost to gravity makes me question the value of adventure. Yet with the passing of my own parents I realize life is finite. It’s what we do while we are alive  and how we help others that I measure life by. On these counts Nolan lived life.  The family and Sav are still working through this loss.
