First I saw a tiger (named Charger) walk up the cliff and jump over a gap. It was heading for a hidden water hole just beyond. Then we painstakingly set a camera trap on the cliff, with the beam adjusted so that as the tiger made the leap back it would trigger the camera at the perfect moment. That is all in theory. After three months in that position, we had used one roll of film. I shipped that Kodachrome 64 back to National Geographic headquarters, along with probably 500 rolls of film from other camera traps and manual shooting. I waited for what seemed like forever.
