Photo by Pete McBride @pedromcbride | For roughly three days in 2014, the Colorado River kissed the sea again for the first time in 16 years. I witnessed this historic event and did what any river lover would do: I paddled the pulse with friends. The three of us became the last people to float the Colorado River to the sea. We marveled at the ecological memory that sprang back to life but also at the quiet demise of this Southwest delta. The demands for water today are so great that seeing this river shake hands with the Gulf of California again is unfortunately unlikely any time soon.
