Created in 1985, Larry Bell’s towering ‘40 Degree Elliptical Vapor Panels’ is a captivating example of the large-scaled illusionist sculptures for which the artist is best known. Throughout his career, Bell has made investigations into the properties of light on surface. By experimenting with the nature of surface and its relationship to space, the artist has devised a methodology characterized by spontaneity, intuition and improvisation.
