In our September issue, @marthastewart48 takes us inside the cabbage patch at her Bedford gardens. Growing up enjoying cabbage in the classic Polish dishes her mother and grandmothers cooked; now our founder grows about a dozen varieties of the vegetable on her farm. “Our vegetable plot in Nutley always had large, hard white cabbages—Mom's pick for pierogi—and the plain green ones she used for her gołabki. When I started my own garden, I planted a range of different kinds to try in the kitchen.” - Martha. @marthastewart Martha I have a stupid question. Phonetically how did you pronounce golabki. My grandmother and grandfather are from Poland pronounced it gowumki just wondering why. Have u heard of that. ? They're passed now so I can't ask them.

@marthastewart How do you keep your cabbages pest-free? I’ve made several attempts to grow them (and Brussels Sprouts) but they always get ravaged by caterpillars. 😭

If you don’t have rows of organically grown polish cabbage patches somewhere in your grand estate, then store bought cabbage is fine. Ina Garten ♾

@marthastewart how do you keep the bugs from eating your cabbage? What’s the best organic way to keep the bugs off? Your cabbage is beautiful!
