It’s almost like playing a real-life game of “Call of Duty.”
In the next few years, U.S. soldiers may be equipped with an augmented-reality system based on Microsoft’s HoloLens 2 technology on the battlefield. The Army is calling their headset “IVAS,” which stands for Integrated Visual Augmentation System.
Soldiers wearing the IVAS headset will see digital graphics — like maps, videos and a compass — displayed on top of the world in front of them. It also features thermal night vision capabilities.
The headset is far from finished, but the Army’s Under Secretary said he expects to begin “fielding it to thousands and thousands of soldiers across the force” as soon as 2022 and 2023.
