The writer Toni Morrison has died, at the age of eighty-eight. In 2003, she discussed her legacy with Hilton Als: “Being a black woman writer is not a shallow place but a rich place to write from. It doesn’t limit my imagination; it expands it. It’s richer than being a white male writer because I know more and I’ve experienced more.” Tap the link in our bio to read more. Wow ! When was she a white male writer ? Rich and famous but still “Woe is me I’m black blah blah blah. I’ll tell you who had it hard, my white husband who was tortured and beat up every day by precious black kids at school! Dropped out at 15 couldn’t take it anymore! But went on to be a great father and successful business man despite black people and no diploma !!! Not a fan anymore!!!

@greys_asweknowit racism expresses itself through racial prejudice or discrimination. In this quote she is affirming that she knows more and has experienced more than white males. She makes a generalization where being a black female is more advantageous than being a white male. How is it that you can not see that this is a textbook racial prejudice is bewildering to me.

@kelseybuxton there was never any doubt in regards to the underlying explanation for her generalization, since it is self-evident given the two demographics she compared and the context of the comparison, which is an artistic endeavor. Explaining her thought process doesn’t address the core issue at hand. Have a nice day.

diversity i can believe in... inequality however drives my cynicism... who believes that you use an obvious out of context racially charged quote to polarize the response... come on NYermag... let work speak for itself... peace with her and her family...

Her books introduced me to real literature, with heavy symbolism, themes, motifs I could search for and be an active reader with. I cherish all the lessons her stories taught me. Thank you Ms. Morrison! You will be missed! 💜💜💜
