White-supremacist terrorism is nothing new, but this sickeningly specific instantiation of it—lone shooter, assault rifle, online manifesto, a link to a live stream—seems to be contagious. In Pittsburgh, in Poway, in Christchurch, in El Paso, each killer may have acted alone, but they all appear to have been zealous converts to the same ideology, a paranoid snarl of raw anger and radical nationalism. What can be done about the online spaces from which they draw inspiration?

@chef_excellents_righthand the puckle gun was never used in combat and took 3 or more people to operate it much like a Gatling gun and other large heavy clunky weapons of that era. It’s not the same thing. It’s very naive to make statements such as yours. What’s more naive is that people forget we were at war during the time the constitution and the bill of rights were written. So it was important to add things like the second amendment to ensure that it would be well known that citizens were going to be given the right to bear arms to warn the British or French or Spanish or what ever other outside country not apart of the emerging United States that we as a country at that time would not stand by and allow them to come into our towns or land and take it again without a fight. That was the whole point of a well armed militia back then. Both foreign and domestic, with domestic meaning more along the lines of militias loyal to foreign governments or crowns, didn’t necessarily mean our own government or our own US citizens would or should have the right to take up arms against each other. You didn’t have the right then and you don’t have that right now to create militias just to kill each other.

@chef_excellents_righthand it’s not false. Nothing was detailed about down to the magazine or weapon type. Right to bear arms is a blanketed catch all phrase. Included in arms can be missiles, fighter jets, tanks, Grenades, rocket launchers, swords whatever you want to add. The constitution and the bill of rights is a living document that was created to be amended and changed as time progressed. As technology progresses to it’s within the rights of the people to amend it to include or exclude certain words and classifications. In the instance of right to bear arms it’s not false as you say to include or exclude certain weapons and their attachments or capacities or explosive ability from the second amendment. You aren’t allowed to own a nuclear bomb for instance. Which the founders new there were bombs but they certainly could have never imagined there would be such a weapon.

These online spaces are available to other countries. Video games are available in other countries. Mental health problems are not unique to the US. Other countries have had mass shootings. The difference is, other countries do something about it. And it’s not difficult to do 5 minutes of research to find out what they do. https://www.loc.gov/law/help/firearms-control/germany.php There’s an example of a country that knows what can happen, and works to prevent it happening again.

The internet was meant to bring education, empowerment, and a destruction of ignorance. Instead it's created an engine for evil and a controlled agenda for hate. But this goes beyond just that enormous narrative and debate on the reflection of first world society. The almighty dollar is now the symbol of'freedom' and 'democracy'. The NRA and machines of war take priority over the basic right of life. Long live freedom...

Gun control is not the answer. Shutting down online spaces will on encourage more to fill the void. Why not look deeper into why people choose this path. The president’s hate speech feeds a sentiment simmering. Why do these people feel so disenfranchised that a mass shooting is a way to make a statement? Reacting to events will not save lives; Acting to understand might save lives.

Impeachment of Trump, not just for Russian collusion but the poisoning of a presidents office to use racist hate group ideology that has inspired domestic terrorism . In that yes we are in unprecedented waters but no other president in history has villified a race , condoned the actions of white supremacists and been linked directly to shooters operating off of his ideology
