National Geographic Travelさんのインスタグラム写真 - (National Geographic TravelInstagram)「Photo by @CristinaMittermeier | In all my years of diving, I have encountered many whale sharks in many places around the world. Every time I am overcome by a deep sense of wonder about how breathtaking marine life truly is. Watching their massive bodies pass within a few feet of you, mouths agape, gulping down tiny plankton, all propelled by their mighty tails. In recent years, the whale shark tourism industry has exploded in Isla Mujeres, Mexico. At points, the whole experience felt like a nightmare, especially for the whale sharks, with hundreds of snorkelers, boats, and little regulation. Today, thanks to the advocacy efforts of many groups and individuals, like my friend Shawn Heinrichs, there are much stricter regulations, including mandatory propeller guards, no free diving and only two snorkelers in the water at a time. Learn more about a growing community that is driving change, so species like this will continue to have a voice and necessary protections around the world at @CristinaMittermeier. #whaleshark #mexico #wildlife」8月4日 10時11分 - natgeotravel
