"All this female rap shit is history. When we look back on this in 10 years, this is going to be an era that no one will forget. So why not get acquainted with each other? We’re probably going to be sitting next to each other at award shows. You gotta be cool with people." As she prepared for her Freshman Class concert slot, @riconasty spoke to Vogue about this musical renaissance; tap the link in our bio to read more. Photo by @worksoface

@effortlessfame I understand why you disagree but at the same time we can't put all the blame on the artists either! They're being manufactured and presented to the world by billion dollar corporations who control what becomes "popular" that's why I said I expected backlash bc there are definitely a lot of hands in the cookie jar! A lot of powerful ppl are happy with the way things currently are so I HUMBLY ask those "Billionaire Boys" who are sitting at home enjoying the latest twerk competition to please allow us to have a little bit more variety I mean we get it y'all enjoy big boobs and big booties that's all good but we true hip hop heads are not extinct and we would like more content. Quality over quantity! Also for the women we need to embrace our differences when given the opportunity! The industry has room for more than one QUEEN!! I mean even the Royals make room for each other if no one else is allowed to be called a QUEEN then we will make them duchesses of whatever. Take Mary J Blige the QUEEN of hip hop soul and Faith Evan the FIRST LADY of hip hop soul! There's room for everybody I mean wouldn't it be nice to know there is someone else out there holding down the fort while y'all go on hiatus? Also I must say something about the comment you made about Lauryn Hill only making 1 album I believe there were many personal factors that caused us to as of yet only get 1 album out of Lauryn Hill based on the information that was released to the public so I don't know if she is a fair example of why the music industry/entertainment industry is in the state that it is in today. Hopefully with enough ppl speaking up no one will feel like they're under attack there's just clearly a demographic that is unsatisfied and we need to find a common ground!

@elisevp yes I stated my opinion I believe the artist this article is about did the exact same thing! In fact I agreed with what she said but I understand if that went unnoticed bc unity is not allowed amongst women. Instead of celebrating the uniqueness of the great female rappers of the past you're ASSuming that I don't support contemporary artists. Well that's not true I just think more originality is needed. Sometimes it takes a paragraph as a matter of fact it may take a book and a movie before we start to see a change bc this has been going on for quite a while now. I understand this change I would like to see would effect a lot of people's pockets thus making my opinions a threat. Plastic Surgery costs a lot of money so I'm sure I won't get much support from the plastic surgeons and for the artists who have already had the procedures done they have probably invested a lot of coins and would like to see a return on their investment before the hip hop culture goes back to how it used to be so no hard feelings on my end I understand and I expected the backlash! 😉

@n0tsofrench That's cool I'm glad to hear she's not. I'm just saying I've been seeing how a lot of these female rappers present themselves and I find it comical that they are beefing when they all look alike and basically make the same songs talking about the same exact things. I'm a true hip hop head and I miss the days when female rappers like Queen Latifah, MC Lyte, Salt n Pepa, and DaBrat just to name a few were on the scene and each of these women had distinctive sounds and styles you knew who's voice you were listening to on the radio bc they were different! If we could get back to ppl being original and not using the same "formula" to sell records the music industry would get a lot more interesting and may even lead to more collaborations like Brandy's classic I wanna be down remix! That's all 😊

@bellamoneek I actually 100% disagree with vogue on this topic. The last ten years have been the most forgettable years in history as far as female or any other artists go.
Like you said, the strong female presence in 90’s hiphop makes it hard to accept these vastly less gifted artists of today. But it doesn’t even stop at hiphop. Truth is post hiphop we started asking vastly less of our artists.. chaka kahn, patrice rushen, donna summer, stevie nicks, joni mitchell, kate bush etc.. All had a dozen good records. Enter hiphop. Lauren Hill, one good album, eryka badu, one good album. And they’re the good ones. It’s obvious we’re in the midst of a wave of
de-evolution. ⚰️

Not only are they sitting beside each other at award shows they all look alike they use the same plastic surgeons, same make artistis, they wear the same lace front wigs, they wear the same designer clothes, they talk about the same things in their songs. I could go on for hours explaining all the things they have in common. Hell they're practically the same person. I would ask them do you hate yourself bc you're basically looking in the mirror and hating on yourself! #spreadunity
