Who’s up for a swim? How about some swimming history? 🏊🏼♀️ Barrier breaking swimmer, Mille Gade Corson was born in Denmark. At 16, she was awarded the Royal Life Saving Medal by the king (one of only five in the world at that time). She also received recognition and a cash award from the Carnegie Foundation for her life-saving feats. (Click the link in our bio to learn more about early lifesaving medals.)🏅 She moved to the United States in 1919. In 1921, she became the second woman to swim around Manhattan Island. On August 27 and 28, 1926, she swam the English Channel (from France to England) in just under 16 hours. She was the second woman (and first mother) to conquer the Channel.🌊 #BecauseOfHerStory #WomensHistory #AmericanHistory #EntertainmentHistory #SportsHistory #SwimmingHistory #Swimming #SwimHistory #philanthropy [🏊🏼♀️: Mille Gade Corson Collection, Archives Center]
