The Laguna Iberá has been protected as a provincial park for several decades, so wildlife and especially the rich birdlife is easy to spot and the region is becoming a popular destination for dedicated birders. Alliances between national and provincial governments and the conservation non-profit Conservation Land Trust Argentina (the Argentine team of Tompkins Conservation) resulted in the creation of the Great Iberá Park just last year, and nature-based tourism is becoming a new and sustainable source of income for many of the communities surrounding the wetlands. It is an incredible destination for those interested in wildlife, traditional culture and vast horizons!
