At the heart of any matter, is where the truth lies.
Truth is, these people - our people - are the backbone and spirit of Hawaii and our culture. They are willing to die here to protect this very sacred land we stand on.
This is not about stopping the progress of science. I’ll always be an advocate for science advancement, but not at the expense of human beings who are hurting.
When we lead with empathy, we make progress thru humanity.
I remain optimistic our leaders will do right by the people.
Because in the end, that’s really the only thing that matters - people.

U connect to my heart inspired Rock when u said Lead with empathy then we make progress in that humanity -- people need to hear and see that in action everyday everywhere!! .......It reminds me of a woman i seen today sitting outside frenchs bakery and when i left she was still there - and i then noticed a bag under the table - i asked if she would like something to eat, so i gave her my cream cheese scone & i asked if there was a shelter nearby, she said yes nodding -- so i walked back to my friends car & when i turned around she had her hands in prayer then nodded at me again -- she is now permanently part of my prayer warrior list in my daily prayers to my heavenly Father and Jesus...💞💝🌈🌸🌸

Love you man, but the protests are misguided. Many of the claims are unproven and no burial sites have been found there. This has more to do with some native groups of people who don't like being part of the U.S. and are using this as an opportunity to bring attention to their cause using by the good old victimization strategy.
The reality is that this telescope should be seen more as an homage to the original brave Hawaiians who used the stars to navigate the vast Pacific and spread around the Polynesian culture across the Pacific.
This telescope will now study the very same stars used but those same brave navigators thus uniting both the old and new cultures.

Thank you for your concern about Hawaii. My mother had you in her math class at Washington Intermediate. One of her biggest pet peeves was when students would not show their work to arrive at an answer. I ask this of you now. I'm glad you met with the TMT opponents to hear their side. I urge you to do the same with those in Hawaii who support it. There are Native Hawaiians who want it built on Mauna Kea, who believe that the mountain can be shared for cultural preservation and scientific discoveries. As a former student of Mrs. Kimura at WIS, show your work before you give your answer.

@therock we all should respect the land and rights of the indigenous people, but sometimes we should talk louder since some voices are more considered then others!! Dear Dwayne, be a strong voice for all indigenous people in the Americas, you are somebody to look up, and many people keep a lot in consideration your opinions! We are all brothers of this beautiful hearth, respect is the first step for a peaceful planet. Thanks brother!

Aloha The Rock! Not all Hawaiians agree with the protestors. Most of us embrace the future rather than fixate on the past. It's just that the social media presence has been very one sided. Speak to the older generations who are not on social media. And hear both sides of the argument. Mahalo!
