Did you take a job outside of your field when you graduated college? Was it because you had student loans, and needed a job that would pay the bills? If so, you're not alone.
⠀
More than half of people who owe $55,000 or more in student debt say they took a job outside of their field, compared with 29% of those with no debt, according to new research by Mark Kantrowitz, publisher of SavingforCollege.com.⠀
⠀
“It’s absolutely ironic,” Kantrowitz said. “You go to a more expensive college, supposedly the best in your field, but take on too much debt, so you can’t work in your field because of the need to repay the debt.”⠀

Without me excepting long as there is no way I would've been able to graduate college my mother was stuck in her feelings and hated me because I got along with my father so my father was the only one who could help out monetarily my mom was checked out it while I was in my teens so the only encouragement that I got was through luckily a friend that I had who was active in trying to get scholarships and applying for college that actually is the woman that change my life but I had to take loans to finish my degree otherwise I wouldn't be the bachelor degreeHolder that I am today

There are ways to manage student debt. The biggest misunderstanding actually comes from financial illiteracy. Everyone, no matter which major they take should be required to have personal finance courses in college...that should be in addition to any basics learned in high school. For anyone interested, we can help you. Link in bio.

Issue with this thought is the idea that millennials and gen z graduating at the moment are studying something they are interested in... it shows in an interview if you even care about the subject or if you got a degree to get a degree.

Maybe don't spend 80k getting Art History degree? Or a generic bachelor's of psychology? I would love a study on what majors are saying they have issues repaying the loans.

Do any college students start in their field? I was a waitress until I could land my dream job, degree or no degree. Pretty sure that’s how it’s been for 50 years.
