@rachelclaire28 Ketosis can lead to ketoacidosis so yes they are different but not in the way people who preach this diet say. Google it and make sure to look at scholarly articles not shit from diet magazines and people who preach it, they tend to only talk about one side. The one I found from Harvard shows that while it still helps with weight loss and has positive effects on juveniles with epilepsy it’s not without risk. There’s still the risk of heart disease, kidney issues and a plethora of other possible issues that can be caused by this to even non diabetics. So yeah you will loose weight but anyone can get Ketoacidosis from sustaining high levels of ketones and your kidneys still have to filter out the excess which can cause permanent damage.

@friedgold good work mate?I've been on a 500-600 cal ketogenic diet since April. 3.5 Stone so far and still going strong. Keep in mind the keto sticks aren't very accurate so don't be too disheartened if it's taking a while to register. The blood kits are a lot better but tbh you don't really need to test. Keep your protein low, fats high and try to avoid all carbs that aren't green and leafy. On 600 cals a day you can't help but get into ketosis. Also make sure you drink loads of water >3liters a day. After some trial and error I found the following works best for me but experiment to find your best fit - 1 meal a day 50g Protein, 30g Fats, 0-5 g Carbs. If still hungry as more fats.

@milesdaniels I’m so sorry to hear about your injury, Miles. Glad to hear you’re turning a corner, though. I’d start with your doctor and make sure you’re healthy enough to start the regime. Assuming you are, I’ve found it very straightforward. Count carbs not calories (you’ll actually find your appetite is curbed naturally once you get off of sugar and carbs). No more than 20 carbs a day coupled with good hydration and light exercise - it’s really that simple.

I've been doing the low-carb thing for a year now. These strips are very helpful but be sure to stay hydrated. If you don't drink enough water, they won't register your ketones correctly. Good luck! Hit me up if you want some recipes or advice! I have an awesome low-carb cheesecake recipe that I would be happy to share.

@aarontilley I’ve read up on it a lot. I’ve spent many evenings worrying I’ve been doing the wrong thing to my body haha @friedgold I’m sure others have said but you shouldn’t be worrying about calories on Keto. That’s the beauty of it!

@rachelclaire28 I know as a type 1 myself I don’t get how people can just ignore the risks even if they aren’t diabetic. It’s scary to see what people will do to loose weight fast and how they can rationalize the risks or ignore them.
