On #Caturday, a trip to the Egyptian collection, of course. 🐈 The cat was the sacred animal of the great and benevolent goddess Bastet. In her honor, mummified cats, sometimes in wooden or bronze containers like this one, were donated at her temples. (No mummy inside this one!)
This sleek cat was no ordinary feline—its erect, dignified pose, along with alert eyes and graceful legs, convey a sense of controlled power. 🔎 Zoom in to see its pierced right ear, which once held a gold ring (now lost), and its incised necklace featuring a wedjat-eye pendant.

I have a living cat just like that bronze. I adopted her from Petsmart in California. The cat came with her Visa from Dubai, the former owners gave her up. She is an Egyptian or Arabian Mau. I'm pretty lucky to be her new caretaker. Her name is Lily and she is quite elegant but can be very dominating. She's surely not like American cats!

I have always said that the ancient Egyptians were ahead of their time in so many areas, including psychology. They were truly entombed with their felines. Thank you, everybody.

Such dignity and grace. Certainly my moggie, though lovely, does not make it in the Egyptian stakes. Mine’s too well fed!
