Photo by Keith Ladzinski @Keith Ladzinski | It’s been a historic season for flooding throughout the Great Lakes region of North America, primarily due to heavy snowmelt pouring into the lakes, which was followed by a prolonged rain season. According to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Lake Erie reached its highest level on record. I photographed this scene in the charming town of Port Clinton, Ohio, a summer destination for vacationers. Many of the locals I spoke to in flooded areas have suffered serious damage to their businesses and homes, most citing insurance policies that won’t cover the damage, leaving them in difficult financial positions.
