The ranch we visited was below the Nevado Del Ruiz Páramo. In this image, the Páramo is high above and hidden behind the clouds. The Páramo is a unique ecosystem only found at high elevations in the Andes Mountains. The ecosystem acts like a sponge, collecting water from clouds and fog, storing it, and then releasing it. Fuzzy tall cactus-like plants absorb moisture as clouds pass by. Millions of Colombians depend on this ecosystem for water.
