So for my birthday Jan 20th 2010 I awoke to the news that our label @defjam dropped us. I took that news lying down for like 6 hours then decided round 3pm I didn’t wanna forever be reminded that I get fired on my bday (high school Sam Goody’s & my insurance job 3 years later) so I simply called La Reid. Told him maybe he should hear what we working on before he commits to that action....& besides who fires someone on their birthday? Just like that——reinstated. Whew.
Double Whew was we really didn’t have that much of an album completed. He did say/(threaten?) that if we didn’t turn this in 2nd quarter he’d drop us for sure.

This was probably the FASTEST album we worked on (timewise)——we had four joints in the can. I *believe* that the next day we backed up #MonstersOfFolk the end of the week and I knew immediately their single #DearGod was a better fit for us. The ball kept rolling and rolling—-I know I do the “don’t have favorite kids” thing but damn I love #HIGO. Happy 9th Anniversary to #HowIGotOver our 12th jawn June 22nd 2010

rob_b_dpt @questlove - Only the real prevail! This was such a unique album and the birth? of many dope collabs with @johnlegend. The drums on these tracks speak to the soul! Gonna check y’all for the umpteenth time in Newark in November!

merk_magerk This album helped me through the hard times during the aftermath of losing my Mom to cancer earlier that year. So thank you for that, and everything you've done for music history.

reallytweezyb Bought 2 copies of this and I still have an unopened copy because it featured 2 tracks with Blu and he was my favorite “up and comer.”
