Swipe left to see this panoramic view of Los Angeles at night–a city with more than 200,000 streetlights where 4,500 miles of streets are illuminated. We need artificial light for our modern urban life, but a large amount of light is wasted towards the sky and horizon. There is a new generation who have never seen a natural night sky because of the artificial skyglow. Light pollution is not only an astronomer’s problem. It disrupts ecosystems and has health effects on humans, especially when we are exposed to the new, popular blue-rich LEDs.
