Meet the Phainopepla (Phainopepla nitens)! It’s native to parts of the southwestern United States, where it hangs out in deserts and woodlands snacking on its favorite food: mistletoe berries. It can eat more than 1,000 of these low-nutrient berries per day, with each berry spending less than 15 minutes in its digestive system! Males have lustrous black plumage, while females come in shades of grey.
