During World War II, artist #EllsworthKelly, who was born #onthisday, served as a camouflage painter with the 603rd Engineers Camouflage Battalion. While on active duty he fell in love with the city of Paris, and after the war he enrolled in art school there. Kelly would end up spending the next six years living in Paris, which became a watershed moment in his artistic practice.
