Two and a half years after a peace deal was signed between Colombia’s government and the rebel group FARC, many of the promises made are not being honored. Since the agreement, at least 500 activists and community leaders have been killed, and more than 210,000 people displaced from their homes amid the continuing violence. That undercuts a core selling point of the deal: that it would bring safety and stability. For our new series, “Promises Made,” we’re going back to the scene of major news events to see if promises were kept. This is our first article in the series. Visit the link in our profile to learn more about the aftermath of the peace deal in #Colombia. @historiassencillas shot this photo.
