This is the world that the Trump administration and Republican Party leaders are obsessed with: criminalizing, intimidating, and harassing doctors from providing safe, legal abortion — a world where abortion is inaccessible in this country. This is a chilling warning for all of us. We are in a state of emergency for women’s health. Today it’s Missouri, tomorrow it could be all of America. #StoptheBans #EmergencyResponse I stand with @ppact

@kelseyconundrum ya, but doesn't mean that point wasn't taken into consideration after the war (which it was). Abortion is legal yes, but it doesn't mean the states can't restrict them how they deem fit. In 1973, the Supreme Court of the United States issued its ruling in Roe v. Wade, finding that state laws criminalizing abortion violated a woman's right to privacy provided by the Due Process Clause of the U.S. Constitution's Fourteenth Amendment.[1] The high court held, however, that states could regulate and/or prohibit abortions after the first trimester of pregnancy.
In Planned Parenthood v. Casey (1992), the court reaffirmed the central holding of Roe (abortion access is protected by the 14th Amendment) but threw out the trimester framework and said states could regulate abortion prior to fetal viability if the regulation does not impose an undue burden on a woman seeking an abortion. So.... Pretty sure they are within the confines of the law thanks to States Rights. I will refrain from calling you an idiot though since I do not personally know you and it would be rude of me to judge your education status....

@froggyj33 not true at all. The law does not restrict the woman at all, it only restricts the doctors within the state to performing the Abortions. Actually if a woman gets an abortion within the state of Alabama, she cannot be charged, only the doctor. FALSE. The bill clearly states that women will not be held criminally liable.
“Relating to abortion… to provide that a woman who receives an abortion will not be held criminally culpable or civilly liable for receiving the abortion….”
Section 5 states, “No woman upon whom an abortion is performed or attempted to be performed shall be criminally or civilly liable….”

I finally got to watch Obvious Child and I cried during the scene where Donna first goes to @plannedparenthood because that’s exactly what I remember...be scared and overwhelmed and the practitioner being so warm, kind and patient. I cried because it felt like I was watching a superhero who I knew might not make it to the sequel, except this shit is real. Thank you for making that film and thank you thank you thank you to the amazing, humane, and brave people who stand for and provide sound, respectful Healthcare for women. ❤️

KCMO gal here. While concern for more bans throughout the country are justifiably high, women in the cities here still have options because we can take a short drive to KS or IL, depending on the city. On the positive side, this will change the political dynamic in our state because the large majority of women here will never vote Republican again. This archaic legislation will be reversed promptly. This extreme conservative movement is going to be the death of the GOP, so I consider it a means to an end.

@s__leblanc it’s always the nastiest people who end their “conversations” with god bless you. Hypocrisy at its best. I am pretty positive that I have more education than you and could hold an educated conversation on any topic with you. I just don’t want to. I actually have a job and a family and friends. So, keep spewing your “god bless” rhetoric at somebody else. You’re not anyone I CHOOSE to engage with. You know...I’m PRO CHOICE.

Why don’t we empower women to take their reproductive rights into their own hands? We have the power to make our partners wait til marriage, use condoms or other contraception! Why do we want to kill babies so badly instead of taking responsibility for our actions? We don’t want the government to tell us what to do but we want them to pay for the slaughtering of innocent babies? That’s so wrong!
