As with all tapir species, the young have a “watermelon” patterned, camouflage coat to help them hide in dappled forest light during the day when mom is away feeding. The smallest, and furriest of the tapir species, mountain tapirs are found in the cloud forests of Colombia, Ecuador, and northern Peru.
