Hurricane Harvey caused severe damage to this community in 2017. Through a partnership with Lott Carey and the Red Cross, Bread of Life, Inc., has provided 73 families with home repair/rebuild services in Kashmere Gardens. Bread of Life is a nonprofit organization serving communities in Houston that are still rebuilding their homes, and lives, two years after Hurricane Harvey. Since Hurricane Harvey the organization has distributed $45,000,000 in goods, clocked 7,500 volunteering hours, and served over 37,000 families. The organization targeted Kashmere Gardens because of the high concentration of seniors living there. Hurricane Harvey, a Category 4 storm, flooded over 150,000 homes and displaced more than 30,000 people in 2017.
