Marking the auction debut of François-Xavier Lalanne’s “Grand Moutons de Peter” series, these large-scale bronze sheep represent the culmination of decades of continuous exploration and refinement of what is arguably Lalanne’s most iconic form. Each comprised of two rams and an ewe, the limited-edition of eight from this rare series were inspired by Peter Marino – the famed American architect and passionate collector of Les Lalanne’s work, who was also a close friend of the couple. The present “Grands Moutons de Peter”, (or “Peter’s Grand Sheep”), were commissioned by Marino for the gardens of his home in Southampton, where Les Lalanne often visited. Today, the residence is home to the largest collection of Lalanne sculptures in the United States.
