This lavish hand-coloured book, made in 18th-century France, was intended as a guide for decorating your chateaux with the finest Chinoiserie of the period. It was compiled by Gabriel Huquier, a collector and one of the most prominent tastemakers of the period, who designed a prolific amount of ornamentation. There are over 60 plates in total showing Chinese birds, flowers, botanical arrangements and elephant-shaped vases. This will be the first traceable copy of the book to come to auction since the 18th century when it is offered at Sotheby’s London next week. #SothebysBooks
